Resided in Alaska

Dec. 7, 2014, the day that will live in infamy not only for all Americans but especially for those who knew and loved della Elizabeth Palmer, who passed away at St. Elias Hospital in Anchorage, Alaska, at the age of 27, the age she held all her life. She was born in Lincoln, Kan., on Aug. 6, 1939, to George and Gladys Haas. She was one of five children. She married Leo Palmer at a young age and remained with him for the past 53 years. She had five children, whom she cared for very much: Kelly Rettburg, James Palmer, Jamie Palmer, Jason Palmer and Jarrod Palmer. She was also a grandmother to 11 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. She was an adventurous woman who was always willing to try new things, such as downhill skiing and sky diving, both of which she experienced in her early 30s. She also drove the Alcan at lest 15 times in her lifetime. She was an avid reader and enjoyed travel and seeing new places. She visited Europe and traveled the continental U.S. She lived in Singapore for four years, but her two most favorite place were Alaska in the summer and Mexico in the winter. She loved to cook and try new recipes. She was an active part of the community: in the 80s she opened a book store in Wasilla, Alaska. She enjoyed working the elections and worked on the last five decennial censuses. She was always willing to help someone out be it a friend or stranger. After her family, the biggest love of her life was bridge (in which she was a Life Master). She was a strong, independent woman who lived life on her terms. No services will be held, but a celebration of her life will be at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that you make a donation to the charity of your choice.
