Born in Erding, Germany
Resided in Anchorage, Alaska

Wolfgang "Wolf" Steinborn, 67, left this world to be with our heavenly father on July 5, 2020. He passed away from lung cancer. He was born on Oct. 22, 1952, in Erding, Germany, to Gustav and Anny Steinborn. He and his family immigrated to the U.S. when he was a young boy and settled in Minnesota. In 1960, the family moved to Anchorage, Alaska, and that has been his home ever since. Wolfgang graduated from Dimond High School in 1970. He met the love of his life, Kathy Janusiewicz, in 1971, and they were married on June 2, 1973. They had three beautiful children: Monica, Andrew and Alex. and now have two amazing granddaughters: Brenna (7) and Emory (5). He was always a loving, devoted father and Opa and his family was his life.

He worked as an aircraft mechanic for Reeve Aleutian Airways for 25 years and then FedEx for 10 years and retired in 2011. He then worked as a longshoreman at the dock, and retired in May 2020.

Alaska was the perfect place for Wolfgang to live as he loved the outdoors - to camp, to hunt, to fish, anything to be out in our wonderful Alaska wilderness. He and his wife, along with tremendous help from his father-in-law, Gene, built a cabin on the Kenai River. It was a labor of love and he and his family's favorite place to spend time in the summer and even some time in the winter. His granddaughters, nieces and nephews loved to be with him because he had the patience of a saint when teaching them to fish. He gave each one of them an opportunity to drive the boat - even if on his lap - and always kept the fire burning in the hot tub so they could enjoy.

Wolfgang had a very quite demeanor, but a very sweet and kind soul. He had such a easy-going personality and always went with the flow, not easily angered or upset. He was a great conversationalist when speaking with him one-on-one. He was a man of great honesty and integrity and was always available to lend a helping hand to any relative or friend in need.

Wolfgang became very involved in Special Olympics, coaching his son's floor hockey team. He became extremely close to the other coaches, and developed deep friendships with many athletes. He was truly devoted to his team and became quite a good coach.

He is survived by his wife, Kathy; brother Dieter (Linda); three children, Monica (Craig) Andresen, Andrew and Alex Steinborn; two beautiful granddaughters, Brenna and Emory; many brother and sisters-in-law, nieces and nephews.

A funeral will be held at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church and a Celebration of Life will follow. In light of the current situation, a date and time has not yet been decided. It will be some time in the future when family and friends can come together and be close and safe.
