Obituary

William (Bill) David Snider, 78 was surrounded by his loving family when he passed away on Saturday, April 4 at Providence Alaska Medical Center from complications of a stroke suffered earlier that week. He was able to celebrate Easter in Heaven.
Memorial Services will be held 6 pm Thursday April 9 at the Cremation Society of Alaska, 7216 Lake Otis Pkwy, Anchorage. Graveside services will be held later at Angelus Memorial Park.
Bill was born February 27, 1937 in Aberdeen, Washington to Guy William and Josephine (Riemann) Snider. He was the youngest of six children. Bill graduated from Aberdeen High School in 1955. He attended University of Washington on a football scholarship and graduated with a degree in Pharmacy in 1959. While in college, he married his childhood sweetheart, Claribel (Kebby) Snider. After working in Washington State for a few years, they moved to Fairbanks in 1966 with three young children. After their divorce years later, Bill moved to Tulsa, Oklahoma. There he continued working as a Pharmacist and enjoyed many special times with lifelong friends, Bill & Carole Cutsinger and their family. He was a second brother and father to them.
In 1990, Bill returned to Alaska (Anchorage) where he worked at CarrsSafeway retiring in 2005. In May, 2000, he met Diane Heagy and after a whirlwind courtship, they married on January 4, 2001. Friends and family were concerned about how fast it happened but "we had no time to waste" The next years were so very wonderful. Bill and Diane enjoyed many trips to Hawaii, Tulsa, and Wisconsin. In Anchorage, they enjoyed walking at Potter Marsh and Westchester Lagoon. He was a wonderful husband and father, but his greatest joy came from bring Grampa Willy to 12 grandchildren and he was really anticipating the next one to be born in July. He loved babysitting them, going to the parks and attending sporting events in Anchorage and the Valley.
His wife wrote: "At 6foot 2 inches, he was such a gentle giant. I always told him to meet my mom in heaven. She would love him because he cared for me and my family so well."
Bill is survived by his wife, Diane and her four children, Erin and Brian Drumm, Wasilla; Anneke and Chad Richardson, Anchorage; Korah and Robert Harris, Wasilla; and Nikolas and Erica Heagy, Portland, OR and 13 grandchildren; his ex-wife Kebby Snider and their children, David Snider, Union, WA; Gretchen Snider Bassett and husband, Scott Bassett, Vaughn, WA and William Snider, Tempe, AZ; one grandson and one great grandson; and two brothers, Ken Snider, Shelton, WA and Gene Snider, Portland, OR.
He is preceded in death by his parents, and siblings, older brother, Ron and sisters, Lorraine and Doris
The family would like to thank the staff at Providence and special friends, Elizabeth, Paulette and Zaire for their wonderful care during this time.
