On Wednesday, Aug. 26, 2020, Tamara Lynn Burrell, 59, was called home to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ with her family by her side after a short battle with heart disease.

Tami was born on June 13, 1961, to Patricia Faye Burrell in Charlotte, N.C., and came to Alaska when she was 17 days old. She attended elementary and middle school in Anchorage, Alaska, and graduated from Bartlett High School in 1979. Her family recalls how popular and active she was in extracurricular activities while attending Bartlett, lettering in two subjects, participating in the French Club and taking a trip to France with her teacher and friend Ms. Higley, with whom she became good friends after high school. Tami made many lifelong friends in high school and was very proud to have had a lead role in organizing her 40th high school reunion the summer of 2019 held in Anchorage. Of that reunion, Tami stated that she reconnected with many beautiful friends and had a wonderful time.

She graduated from University of Puget Sound with her bachelor's in 1983, and later received a paralegal certification in San Diego, Calif.

Most recently, Tami was a claims supervisor for Northern Adjusters, having worked there since 2001. Her colleagues and co-workers recall Tami's professionalism and kindness, as well as her love for people that endeared her to clients and staff alike.

Prior to her career at Northern Adjusters, Tami worked as a paralegal for the law firm of Russell, Tesche and Wagg for many years.

She loved scrapbooking and card making so much that she opened her own scrapbooking store in Iowa.

Her family states that Tami's life was a testament to her Christian faith, and she helped many family, friends and strangers throughout her lifetime, most notably having had a huge impact on the upbringing of her younger cousins Michele Poole and Cristal Penney with whom she had lived as a teenager. More recently, she was instrumental in the upbringing of Isaiah Harrington whom she considered a grandson.

Tami is survived by her aunt, Nancy Murany of Anchorage; her cousins, Michele Poole and Cristal Penney, both of Anchorage; and cousins, Stephanie of Anchorage, Lori, Angela and Kenny from the Lower 48, Rian of Fairbanks, Alaska, Edward from the Lower 48 and Charlene, Stanley and Cheree from Oregon. She is also survived by her best friends from childhood, Carrie Kay, Cathy Wright and Pat Albrecht who all got together for a "Girl's Night" at Tami's home shortly before her death; adopted grandson, Isaiah Harrington of Iowa; special friend and caregiver, Jaymie Murphy of Wasilla, Alaska; and Jasmine, her cat furbaby for the past 12 years who is being cared for by a family member.

Tami is preceded in death by her grandmother, Louise Mitchell; mother, Patricia Faye Burrell; aunt, Helen Burrell; aunt, Judy Bristow; uncle, Paul Burrell; and many very loved cat furbabies.

At Tami's request she will be cremated and have her ashes spread over Hatcher Pass along with her mother's and pets.

In lieu of flowers, Donations can be made in her honor to The Blood Bank of Alaska or The Allergy and Asthma Foundation of America, Alaska Chapter.

A celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
