Shawn Marie Knudeson, beloved mother, wife, daughter, sister and friend passed from on Monday, July 30, 2018, outside in the Healing Garden at Providence Hospital, surrounded by family and friends.
Shawn was born to Shirley and Dale Knudeson in Portland, Ore., on Jan. 10, 1961. She was the oldest of the four siblings with two brothers, Jason and Christopher, and one sister, Erin.
Shawn moved to Alaska at age 17, and lived her entire adult life in Anchorage. Shawn had three sons who were the love of her life: River (Jamil) and Ocean (Saleem) Jangda with late husband, Hashim Jangda; and Oliver Woods Wilson with husband, Greg Wilson.
Shawn was devoted to raising her children and helping to teach others. Her impact on the teaching and parenting community at the Anchorage Waldorf School and Raven Kindergarten was surpassed only by her love and care for nature.
Shawn was a gentle yet radiant being. She had a sunny smile and warm embrace for everyone. Her spirit touched young and old with a quiet and thoughtful presence.
Shawn was happiest communing with nature. Her ability to see the magnificence of life in all things was profound. She delighted in the wonders of the plant and animal kingdoms and particularly enjoyed Denali National Park and nature walks with friends.
All those who spent time with Shawn were reassured by her profound wisdom that the world is a beautiful place and all is well. This gift of Shawn's is one that we can continue to embrace and celebrate for the rest of our lives.
Shawn is survived by her loving husband, Greg; children, River, Ocean and Oliver; mother, Shirley; father, Dale (deceased); brothers, Chris and Jason; sister, Erin; and many extended family members; The Butterfly Sister Clan; The Alaska Waldorf community and countless other friends.
A Celebration of Shawn's life will take place on Aug. 23, 2018, in Anchorage. Charitable donations to assist the family can be made through Alaska USA Credit Union under the Shawn Knudeson memorial fund or online at GoFundMe.
