Sharon was born in Mandan, N.D., to Nobel and Florence Demaray. At age 15, her family moved to Kulm, N.D., where she met and fell in love with Arnold Heck. They were married in September of 1960 and started their family shortly after. Sharon and Arnold traveled the Alaska highway in May of 1969, a three thousand mile journey with fifteen hundred miles of gravel road, in a pickup truck with two kids and two cats to start a new adventure.
She created a strong home and family which includes many friends and strong bonds to this day. She was an active member of the American Legion Unit 28 since 1978, serving on the board in many positions over the years.
She is survived by her husband of 58 years, Arnold Heck; her daughter, DawnRae Dufford; and son, A. Clinton Heck; four grandchildren, Cord W. and Erik A. Dufford and Guy N. and Mason A. Heck; and two great-grandchildren, Leonard and Anastasia Heck.
She is preceded in death by her parents; her brother, Bruce Demaray; and sister, Arlene Mckinzey; and son-in-law, Randall Dufford.Sharon passed away at home with her family after a long and courageous battle with cancer.
A celebration of life will be held at the American Legion Post 28, 7001 Brayton Drive, Anchorage, AK 99507, on Saturday, Dec. 1, 2018, at 2 p.m.
