November 3, 1928 - February 7, 2018
Born in Racine, Wisconsin
Resided in Anchorage, Alaska

Richard (Dick) Luper, 89, recently of Anchorage, Alaska passed from this life to the next on February 7, 2018.

Born in Wisconsin, Dick loved the outdoors, camping, fishing and swimming. To the chagrin of his fishing buddies, he could catch fish when everyone else was skunked. He would chip through the spring ice for the first swim of the season and taught both summer and winter camping skills to boy scouts and his eldest daughter.

Dick was proud of his service to our country as a Lieutenant Commander in the U.S. Navy and later in the Naval Reserve. He graduated from the University of Wisconsin with a degree in Business and pursued a career in insurance until he entered the then-new field of systems analysis for mainframe computers.

After living throughout the US, he moved to Stone Mountain, Georgia, where he married his beloved second wife, Marilyn Luper. He was a devoted member of the Rock of Ages Lutheran Church and cherished his enduring friendships with his church “reunion buddies”. He was also a long-term member of the American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars and Elks Club.

Dick is survived by his daughters, Debbie Luper of Anchorage and Sandy Luper of Massachusetts. He is also survived by his son-like friend, Maurice Lajoie, and Maurice’s wife, Mary Beth of Georgia. He was preceded in death by his first and second wives, Joan and Marilyn; his parents and brother.

Graveside services will be held at a later date at Fort Richardson National Cemetery.
