Obituary

Longtime Alaska resident Richard Rossie, 78, passed away on Christmas Day, Dec. 25, 2020, after enjoying 29 years of sober fellowship. Being a devout man of the Catholic faith, he loved to share his faith with friends and family who will miss his honest and charismatic demeanor.

Richard was born on Dec. 2, 1942, in Gustine, Calif. He attended Gustine High School, where he played football, ran track and was the Vice President of his graduating class in 1960. He then attended California State University in Fresno, Calif. His residency in Alaska began in early 1985, where he enjoyed the occupations of commercial logging and fishing and as a certified Marine Electrical Engineer. Richard periodically enjoyed the hobby of being a hunting guide on the Kodiak Island when he first arrived to Alaska and later became an avid lover of E-Trading.

Richard's mother and stepfather, Lillian and Fred Lavey; his father and stepmother, Ben and June Rossie; and his sister, Adele Long, preceded Richard in death. He is survived by his three children, John Rossie, Charlotte Brown and Jennifer Whitehouse and their families; by his aunt, Doris Stark and her family; and siblings, Yvonne Sorensen, Sharon Wolfe, Janice Murchison, Fred Lavey and Patty Conner and their families. Numerous extended family members and many dear friends he made in Alaska also survive him.

Per his wishes, there will be no service. To honor the memory of Richard, please consider donating to two organizations near and dear to his heart: Clitheroe Salvation Army, clitheroe.salvationarmy.org; or Alaska Police and Fire Chaplains, alaskachaplain.org.
