Obituary

Michael David Johnson of Wasilla, Alaska passed away on June 30th 2018 at 11:03pm after an eight-month courageous battle with Pancreatic Cancer. He was born on the 7th of January 1967 in Anchorage, Alaska.

Michael joined the Army in 1986 and proudly served for 6 years, part of that time in the 82nd airborne division. During his service he spent time in Germany and IRAQ for Desert Storm and finished his Army carrier as a helicopter mechanic.

As a civilian he worked at SimplexGrinnell for several years all over the world on fire alarm systems. Eventually the travel came to an end and he stayed home in Alaska. He continued to work in the Fire Alarm systems field, for Yukon Fire protection, and obtained a Fire Protection engineering technology/special hazards suppression systems/level III and Fire Protection engineering technology/fire alarm systems/level IV, only one of few that reached this level of certification in Alaska. Mike finishing out his career at Honeywell systems. He was passionate about his work as a fire safety and alarm engineer and was very well respected by his peers, supervisors and customers.

Mike had such a passion for life and was an avid snowmachiner. During the summer months he loved to camp and ride atv's, chopping wood and having a campfire was a must. He loved to introduce people to the sport of snowmachining and was a great teacher and role model for the sport. He was known by many in the snowmachine world as "Uncle Mike" and especially by the children, who he loved to encourage in the sport.

He is preceded in death by his natural father Thomas Lloyd Hurt.

He is survived by his loving wife Tracy Johnson of Wasilla, Daughter Ashley and Son Josh, Mother Barbara Johnson of Texas, Father Dave Johnson and his Wife Patricia Johnson of Florida, Brother David Johnson and his Wife Jolene and children of Arizona, Nephew Caden Johnson of North Caroline, plus a multiple of Aunts, Uncles, and Cousins.
We would like to give a special thanks to Michael’s best friend Dave Stricklan and Wife Jennifer for all their help during Michael’s battle with cancer.

Funeral services will be held Friday the 6th of July at 1 pm at Fort Richardson. A celebration of life will be on the 7th of July at 5 pm, located at 2291 N Manhattan Way, Palmer Alaska.
