Obituary

Mary, 82, passed away peacefully at home on June 26, 2020, with her children at her side.

She was born on December 25, 1937, to Andy and Nancy Aleksich.

Mary grew up in Butte, Montana. She married her lifelong partner, Vyron Wells, on February 14, 1960 in Butte, Montana. They had three children who they loved and were proud of, Mark, Lisa and Wendy. In 1964, they moved to Alaska where Mary was a stay at home mom, PTA leader, little league coach, Cub Scout leader, and opened her home and heart to her children’s friends. Mary loved to cook, bake, entertain and was a gifted knitter, making beautiful sweaters and blankets for friends and family. After her children were in high school she worked for Wien Air Alaska, NC Machinery and Era Aviation.

Being a Christmas baby, Mary went out of her way to make every holiday, especially Christmas, memorable and loved celebrating with family.

Mary recently shared her greatest accomplishment was her family. Her grandchildren were the light and love of her life. She enjoyed spending time with and talking about them.

Her children said, “Mom was loving and generous, and her determination and fierce personality was admired and loved. She will be greatly missed, but her love and influence will guide us and live on.”

She is survived by her son and daughter-in law, Mark and Janet Wells, daughter and son-in-law, Lisa and Mike Arnold; daughter, Wendy Drew; beloved grandchildren Tyler and Austin Arnold, Zale and Ellie Wells, and Johnna Drew; sisters Sandi (Roy) Crittenden and Jean (Rich) Mulcahy; brothers Jerry (Mary Jo) Aleksich and Louis (Rainy) Aleksich; Alaska niece/nephews Rachelle (Brian) Flynn, Dan Stears, Andy Aleksich and numerous nieces and nephews in the Lower 48.

Mary is proceeded in death by her husband, Vyron; parents, Nancy and Andy Aleksich; sister, Virginia Stears; brother-in-law, Chuck Stears, Frank Kinsella and Ed Alger; niece Sheri Stears; and her husband’s six siblings/spouses.

Per her wish there will be no service. Memorial donations can be made to 907 Barrel Race (Vyron Wells Memorial Race), 9811 W White Birch Knoll Ct, Wasilla, AK 99623.
