Obituary

Judy Kay (Sager) Lane left this world on March 23, 2021 at her Wasilla residence after a lengthy illness.

She was born on August 12,1943 in Deadwood, SD, the third child of Theodore C and Katherine Sager. Her parents owned ranches near Aladdin, WY, Tinton, SD Arpan, SD and leased a ranch near Alzada, MT. Life was a circle of ranching, haying, moving cattle, calving, hauling feed, building fences and every other aspect of ranching. This life resulted in a work ethic that she instilled in her two beautiful children, David & Hydee.

On January 28, 1964, Judy and her son David, moved to Delta Jct. and fell in love with the beautiful state and never looked back. A few years later, Hydee joined the family. She put in a short 1 year stint of owning a bar near Seeley Lake, MT and then made the trek back to Alaska, living in Willow, Fairbanks, Anchorage, Knik and has resided in the Palmer/Wasilla area since 1983.

As a result of her varied careers in transportation, journalism, insurance and accounting fields, coupled with working as a musician and managing, leasing and working in many bars. Judy had acquired many life long friends, hundreds of acquaintances, and at least a million memories. Add to the above careers, the sports of Rodeo and horse showing, 23 seasons cooking in hunting camps, 33 consecutive years attending the end of Iditarod in Nome, 2 different hitches on the North Slope - well, she was hard pressed to go anywhere without someone recognizing her.

Judy is survived by her son, David Sager Lane of Anchorage, Grandson, Taylor T. Lane of Las Vegas, NV; Daughter & Son-in-Law, Hydee Kay & Allen Hamrick of Dumas, TX and Granddaughter & Husband, Kaylee M & Evan Schmidt of Borger, TX; Great Granddaughter, Swayze Rae Schmidt; 2 sisters Gayle Ryan of Beulah, WY and Phyllis Watson of Sundance, WY; several nieces, nephews & cousins; several “Adopted” kids that call her “Mom”, a multitude of life long friends and millions of “Pictures Behind My Eyes”. She was preceded in death by her parents and one brother, Bryce W Sager from Anaheim Lake, BC.
