John "Bud: Walters, Sr

John "Bud" Walters Sr., 80, of Anchorage, Alaska, passed away on June 14, 2020, surrounded by family. Bud was his happiest making other people happy. He was not tall in stature, but he was a "big shot" to his family. He had an infectious smile and left a lasting impact on all who were lucky enough to cross his path.

Bud was born in Ventura, Calif., to Benjamin and Minnie Walters on July 5, 1939. He was a graduate of Seward High School. He married Beverly Ann Edlund on Oct. 2, 1964, in Homer, Alaska. Together they owned Bud's Aircraft at Merrill Field for 25 years. Bud then went on to work for the federal government as a safety inspector for OAS until his retirement January 2011. While there, Bud received the Charles Taylor "Master Mechanic" Award from the Federal Aviation Administration.

He was a member and past District Governor of the Lion's Club at International Air-Crossroads, a founding member of the Anchorage Bucs Baseball Club and host parent to many players, a Patriarch of Turnagain United Methodist Church, and Scout Master and District Commissioner for the Boys Scouts of America where he received the highest honor of Silver Beaver.

Bud is preceded in death by his brother, Benjamin O. Walters Jr.; his sister, Sharon Vitola; and his daughter, Melody Hinojosa.

Bud is survived by his wife, Bev; sons, John (Kimberly) and Rick; daughters, Marcy, Marla and Misty (Keith); stepdaughters, Michelle Bailey and Monica Knowles; sister-in-law, Netta Walters; 13 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and lifelong family member, Pat Stopher.

A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.

Memorials may be given as donation to Turnagain United Methodist Church.

The family of Bud wishes to extend our sincere thanks to Dr. Kathy Hurlburt and the hard working doctors and nurses of Providence Alaska Medical Center and Denali Dialysis Center.
