John Dewolfe Hayden, 76, of Eagle River, Alaska, left this world peacefully at Alaska Regional Hospital. He was the loved and devoted husband of Pamela Shepardson Hayden of Eagle River.

John is also survived by his daughter, Jennifer Anderson of Brownsville, Ky.; son, Jonathan Hayden and his wife Jo of Moultonboro, N,H.; grandchildren, Laurel Anderson, Matthew Hayden and Amanda Hayden; and sister, Linda Church. He was preceded in death by his father, Dean Hayden formerly of Concord, N.H.; and mother, Helen Gamans Hayden formerly of Tamworth, N.H.

John was born in Wolfeboro, N.H., and raised in Bow, N.H., and enjoyed his summers at the family cottage on Lake Winnipesaukee, N.H. The family moved to Beverly, Mass., where he graduated from high school.

John's love of the mountains took him to Paul Smiths College in the Adirondack Mountains of New York, where he studied surveying technology. He pursued this career which he loved for over 52 years, and held three state licenses: New Hampshire, Kentucky, and Alaska. After college John returned to Moultonboro and raised his children; he was co-owner of Hayden & Hodges Surveying in Holderness, N.H., and was an active member of the community sitting on the boards for both the School and Planning boards.

John spent 18 years in Kentucky being a surveyor and gentlemen farmer raising Hereford Steers. He spent a short time in Hernados, Miss., where he and Pam married at his lakeside home before moving to Pam's home in Eagle River, and remained there for the last 16 years of his life. While in Alaska John worked for LCG Landtech for 15 years as their Chief of Surveys.
