Haley Ann Lienhart

Our amazing and beautiful daughter and sister, Haley Lienhart, died unexpectedly at her home on February 11, 2020. Haley was an artist, animal lover, and free spirit. She loved cooking, traveling, creating, and sharing experiences with her friends and family. Haley was born in Anchorage on July 7, 1997, the beloved daughter of Mark Lienhart and Nichola Ruedy. She graduated from Dimond High School in 2015. Not finding inspiration in the classroom, Haley sought out real world adventure, often with a reckless abandon. She loved the outdoors and took full advantage of the amazing beauty Alaska has to offer. She was a fiercely independent and self-assured young woman that was not afraid to call it like she saw it. Consequently, she forged meaningful relationships with many people, despite the brief time that she shared with us.

Those that were closest knew her as a caring and sensitive person who sometimes struggled to find her way in a world filled with societal expectation. She maintained a special bond with her dad, and was exceedingly proud of his skills in the kitchen and his unwavering acceptance of her ever-growing family of pets that ultimately took up residence in their home. She was the proud older “sissy” to Emma and, despite their 9-year age gap, they were often partners in crime who shared a unique brand of humor and a bond that only sisters can. Haley loved spending time with her mom and step-dad, showing off her culinary skills and discussing her plans for a life that was ultimately cut short. She was devoted to her friend Garrett who was her long-time partner in their exciting segue into adulthood.

Any worries that we had for Haley’s well-being are now replaced with a devastating sense of loss that exists knowing we will never get to see her realize her full potential or fulfill many of her goals. Haley gained incredible perspective on life through a recent service mission she completed to Africa and had plans to travel to Europe with Garrett this year to feed her insatiable quest for adventure and life experience. She was especially excited to visit Spain and she loved to discuss her travel plans with anyone willing to listen.

Haley is survived by her dad, Mark Lienhart, her mom, step-dad, and little sister, Nichola, Jason and Emma Ruedy, and numerous extended family, friends and loved ones. She leaves behind three dogs: Baloo, Brixton and Shelly, and two cats: Arlo and Onzo.

Friends are invited to share their memories of Haley with her family at a celebration of life service at O’Malley’s On the Green, Friday, February 21, 2020, between 1 and 4 pm (service will be held between 1-2 pm). As an expression of sympathy, the family requests, any donations be directed to your favorite animal rescue charity.

Until we meet again Haley, our words don’t adequately express the love that we hold for you and the unfillable void you leave behind.
