Obituary

Greg Shears was born on October 23, 1948 to Ray and Shirley Shears. He grew up among the redwoods in Fortuna, California with two younger brothers, Doug and Steve. He graduated from Fortuna Union High School in 1966. He attended Santa Rosa Junior College and joined the National Guard and Army Reserves. In 1977, he graduated with a degree in business administration from Northwest Nazarene College in Nampa, Idaho.

His life was changed in October of 1970 when God saved him from sin and brought him into the family of God. His faith in Jesus never wavered and was truly the anchor of his life.
Greg married Sherry Kell on August 7, 1976. After living in Idaho for a few years and working as a realtor, he moved his family to Anchorage, Alaska. In Anchorage, he managed a grocery store, was an independent bread distributor, and eventually returned to selling real estate.

Greg and Sherry have two sons, Ben and Andy. Ben and his wife, Olivia, and two daughters, Ava and Abby, live in Anchorage. Andy and his wife, Kendra, with three children--Roman, Greta and Lincoln--live in Snohomish, Washington. Greg was as proud of his sons as any father ever was.

Greg enjoyed simple pleasures--reading his Bible, mowing the lawn, sitting on the porch, a little bit of fishing--but was happiest spending time with his sons, daughters-in-law, and grandchildren. His grandchildren called him "Ranka".

Greg liked to go to Hawaii for a few weeks during long Alaskan winters. Other travel highlights were a trip to Israel in 2011 and a cruise this past spring from Singapore through the Far East and across the Pacific Ocean. In January Greg and Sherry were thrilled to visit Greg's brother Doug and his wife, Ulla, in Fortuna, California. It was also nice to see their son and daughter-in-law and meet their grandchildren.

Greg attended church at Maranatha Baptist in Anchorage and was also a faithful member of the Bible Study Fellowship men's class.
Greg died on October 25, 2018 at home of congestive heart failure--and began a new life in heaven where he is giving all glory to God.

Funeral services will be held at Maranatha Baptist Church on Thursday, November 1st. The address is 7747 E 6th Avenue. There will be a viewing at 1:00, funeral at 2:00 followed by a time of fellowship. And a burial at the cemetery will be at 4:00.
