Genevieve Risch
Genevieve Risch

August 13, 1929 - January 14, 2019
Born in Post Falls, Idaho
Resided in Anchorage, Alaska

Born in Post Falls, Idaho to Mary Cardin and Albert Phillips, Gen was one of eight sisters.

It was December of 1954 when she married Ronald Risch in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho. Shortly there-after she moved to Anchorage, Alaska with her husband Ron.

In addition to her family, Gen enjoyed fishing off the banks of the Kenai River at the Risch Family cabin. She preferred a simple stick with fishing line attached to the end and no reel as her fishing pole of choice. If the trout were not biting, there were plenty of Irish Lords to catch and feed to her dog. Genevieve was a home maker and in the 1970’s had the responsibilities of keeping their newly constructed home on Jewel Lake. Gen raised three children, Jeff, Greg and Brenda, each one adopted. Gen was known as “Auntie” by some and is said to have raised many more children as she opened her home to neighbors, friends and relatives and watched their children during the work day. She left a lasting and positive impression on generations of children in Anchorage over 4 decades.

A hot cup of coffee was never far from reach at Gen’s house. She enjoyed a good cup of Foldgers most any time of the day. The coffee pot was always on. Along with coffee Gen enjoyed collecting Whirly Gigs and crocheting. Whirly Gigs were proudly displayed along the top of the fence in her yard for the wind to best animate them. Her talents with a crochet needle and yarn produced countless decorations, blankets and gifts. She could crochet on the “davenau” for hours and days on end.

Genevieve Risch will be missed by many.

Gen requested that no services be held. A celebration of life may be planned at a later date.
