Resided in Anchorage, Alaska

Ernesto Rubini, age 82, entered the arms of his Heavenly Father at his home in Anchorage, Alaska on May 19, 2018 with family at his side. Born September 24, 1935 in Buenos Aires, Argentina, Ernesto immigrated to San Francisco, California on August 8, 1965 and became a United States citizen on November 19, 1976, fulfilling his and his father’s dream of US citizenship. This was and remained Ernesto’s proudest accomplishment.
Ernesto came to Alaska in 1968 and was well known in Anchorage for his excellent cooking skills and for the two restaurants he had during the 1970’s and early 80’s; Ernesto’s Mexican Restaurant and Rubini’s (Italian Restaurant) both located in the Muldoon area of Anchorage.
Before opening his own restaurants, he worked as a chef at the Woodshed restaurant in downtown Anchorage and as a chef in the oil fields of the North Slope. In the mid 80’s, Ernesto moved to Monroe, Louisiana and reopened his very successful Ernesto’s Mexican restaurant there before returning to Alaska to be closer to family in his retirement years.
Ernesto is preceded in death by his parents; wife, Jean; two brothers and a sister. He leaves behind two loving daughters, Silvia Martinez and family in Buenos Aires and Jenny of Anchorage, who cared for him until his death as well as many friends who love and miss him dearly.
A service is planned for 7 p.m. Monday June 4 at the Church of Christ, 3124 Rose Street (near Boniface and Northern Lights)
