Obituary

Burt O. Oliver Sr, 73, departed this life on Friday May 3, 2019 in Anchorage, AK. He was born October 24, 1945 in Petersburg, VA.

He was a 1964 graduate of Petersburg High School. In August of 1964, he enlisted in the United States Army and his job was a vehicle mechanic. He went on to fight in the Vietnam War and was honorably discharged in 1967. After the military, he began work at Allied Chemical in Hopewell, VA. He also opened a car lot in Petersburg, B & O Auto Sales. In the 1990s he moved to Anchorage, Alaska. While in Alaska, he worked in security and bought and sold cars on the side. He taught his children the business of buying and selling cars as well so that they could open up independent lots.

Burt was well known in the community whether it was Petersburg or Anchorage. He was friendly and always willing to help someone else. He loved to dress and was often seen with his hat, shined shoes, and creased pants. In his free time, he enjoyed fishing, golfing, flying small planes, and taking in the beauty of Anchorage. He enjoyed life and lived it to the fullest extent.
Up until the time of his failing health, Burt was the picture of health and was full of life. He was an amazing cook, full of laughter, jokes, and stories, and a friend to many. He was a proud dad and grandpa and often bragged about his children, especially his girls.

He is preceded in death by his mother Caretha Tynes and sister Vermont Quarterman.

He leaves to cherish many memories by his children Rhonda Wilson (Malcolm), Tawanda Michelle Connor (Tim), Burt (BJ) Oliver Jr, Carlos Oliver, Sheranda Oliver, Marcus Joyner III, Rolunda Oliver, eleven grandchildren, his brother, Quincy Bolling(Pauline), nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of friends.

A memorial service will be held on June 14, 2019 at 7pm at Macedonia Tabernacle Ministries. The address is 3615 E. River Rd, South Chesterfield, VA 23803. A private burial will take place at Fort Richardson Cemetery; date and time to be determined.
