Obituary

Anchorage resident, Beverly Jeanne Roses died September 11, 2012, at Alaska Regional Hospital. A celebration of life service is scheduled for 11:30am, October 13, 2012 at Anchorage Baptist Temple, 6401 E. Northern Lights.

Bev was born Feb. 2, 1947, in Vancouver, Wash., to Robert L. and Gertrude A. ( Strohmeier) Jelinek. She graduated from East in 1965 and Alaska Methodist University in 1969 where she met and married Bob Roses on March 30, 1968.

She lived in Anchorage for 60 years, 44 of them in the home her father and husband built in Muldoon.

Bev retired in 2004 after teaching math at Service, Dimond, Clark, Wendler and University of Alaska Anchorage. She loved teaching and inspiring students for success in mathematics.

She loved cooking gourmet meals with fresh vegetables from her garden and greenhouse.

Bev loved fishing for salmon and halibut. Every trip to the family cabin in Homer was exciting and never a long enough stay for her. Before leaving the boat harbor to return to Anchorage she always asked "when are we coming back."

Bev had a wonderful sense of humor and enjoyed telling stories of Anchorage life when she was young. Her favorite stories were of being caught on the highway returning from skiing at Alyeska when the 1964 earthquake hit and of scuba diving in Whittier the summer after.

Bev is survived by her mother, Gertrude Jelinek; husband, Bob Roses; daughter and son-in-law, Judi Roses and Michael Callahan; sister and brother-in-law, Jan and Tim Martinson and their children Heidi, Tim and Holly, all of Anchorage; daughter and son-in-law, Heather and Ryan Callahan of Parker, Colorado; grandchildren, Mikey and Johnny Callahan of Anchorage, Naomi and Ben Callahan of Parker, Colorado.

Beverly was preceded in death by her father, Robert and sister, Judy Jelinek.

End of life services provided by Cremation Society of Alaska.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations in Bev's memory to the charity of your choice.
