Longtime Eagle River, Alaska, resident Audrey Fredeen, 80, died on Aug. 31, 2020, at home surrounded by her loving husband and three children after a valiant 4-year battle with pancreatic cancer.

Audrey was born to Hoffer and Mabel Jensen in Olympia, Wash., and raised in Lacey, Wash., on a family farm with her nine siblings. She graduated from Thurston High School and Seattle Pacific College, and excelled as a medical technologist conducting research for the University of Washington.

In 1965, Audrey married Wayne Fredeen of Preston, Wash. She and Wayne moved to Fairbanks, Alaska, in 1975, during the construction of the trans-Alaska pipeline. They then relocated to Eagle River as Wayne continued to work for Alyeska Pipeline.

Audrey stayed at home raising her three children, Theresa, Erik and Craig, until they began school. She then worked as an assistant to a local doctor, did accounting for a maintenance contractor, and later worked for the Municipality of Anchorage as a property tax assessor for 10 years until she retired.

Audrey and Wayne enjoyed 55 years together traveling domestically and internationally, spending time at their Kenai River cabin, and enjoying activities with family and friends. She enjoyed reading, puzzles, cooking traditional Scandinavian foods for Christmas, her book club and spending as much time as possible with friends, family and her six grandchildren. She will be remembered for her radiant smile, positive attitude, love for everyone, her delicious meals and her expert ability at filleting salmon.

Audrey inspired those around her with her resiliency and dedication. As a three-time cancer survivor she continued to give to those around her. Audrey was a true shoulder to lean on for her family and friends. She expressed love through action by volunteering with various organizations throughout her lifetime including literacy tutoring, Jayces and Joy Lutheran Church in Eagle River, where she was a member for over 40 years.

Audrey was preceded in death by her parents, Hoffer and Mabel Jensen; brothers, Nathan and David Jensen; and sister, Louise Swanson. She is survived by her husband, Wayne Fredeen; her daughter, Theresa Overton and husband Simon of Pleasanton, Calif.; son, Erik Fredeen and wife Kerrie of Eagle River; son, Craig Fredeen and wife Amy of Anchorage, Alaska; and grandchildren, Christopher, Emma and Sarah Overton; Ki and Conner Fredeen; and Levon Fredeen. Audrey's surviving siblings include Marcia Wallace of Puyallup, Wash.; Elvine Sandefur of Wheaton, Illinois; Delores Kriete of Wilbur, Wash.; Beverly Fredeen of Spokane, Wash.; Patsy Ostegren of Fort Myers, Fla.; and Rodney Jensen of Fruitland, Wash.

A local service will be held at a later date due to COVID-19 concerns. Audrey will be interred at Preston Cemetery in Preston, Wash.
