Anchorage, Alaska, resident Anndrea McQuaid, 55, died peacefully at Providence Transitional Care. Anndrea fought the ravages of ALS; she succumbed to the complications of the disease on Oct. 11, 2018.
Anndrea was born in Tachikawa, Japan, on July 24, 1963, to Staff Sergeant Lee Roy Bratcher and Shirley Bratcher. Anndrea (1), with brother Roger (6) and sister Donnetta (8), transferred to Hawaii, Arizona, and then Maryland. Lee retired, and the Bratchers headed to Alaska.
Anndrea attended West High School and Save, graduating from Save. Deciding on a military career, she headed to Texas to boot camp, choosing to be in the Air Guard in Arizona. Anndrea met her husband, John McQuaid, and later had son David McQuaid. Anndrea stayed home. Devoted and loving, she started an at home day care. Returning to Anchorage with David (3), she resumed her pursuit in childcare, working for her family at the Spenard Kiddy Drop Day Care. She then worked with the South Central Foundation Family Center, meeting her second family and enjoying teaching and advising parents. She was always ready to help anyone or animal in need.
She is survived by parents, Lee and Shirley Bratcher; sister, Donnetta and Frank Panichello; brother, Roger Bratcher; son, David McQuaid; and many nieces, nephews, and great-nieces and great-nephews.
Anndrea requested no funeral service be held; she was cremated at Cremation Society of Alaska. Her life celebration will be announced later. In lieu of flowers, Anndrea requested donations be made to Friends of Pets Animal Shelter, 4711 Elmore Road, Anchorage, AK 99507.
