Biography

Grethe M. Jensen, 87 of Anchorage died Monday, July 26, 2010 at Providence Alaska Medical Center.

Grethe was born May 23, 1923 in Denmark. She grew up and attended school in Denmark. She studied Home Economics. She married Andreas "Andy" Jensen. Grethe and Andy came to the United States via Greenland in 1957, settling in Anchorage.

Grethe worked as a Chef and Cook at many Anchorage restaurants including Bert's Drug, the Sheffield House, the Elks Club, Marx Brothers, and many others. She retired in 1988. For many years in retirement, shw would volunteer two days a week at the Anchorage Pioneer Home, and two days a week at Bean's Cafe as a Pastry Chef.

She was known to walk everywhere. Grethe was a member of the Alaska Hotel and Restaurant Employee's Union.

Her friends stated: "She had many friends from all walks of life. She respected everyone's feelings and wishes, and lived her life her own way. She was extremely proud and an exceptional hard worker."

No immediate survivors

She is preceded in death by her husband, Andreas in January, 1988.

Her cremated remains will be scattered with her husband at their cabin site near Sheep Mountain.
