Obituary

Marcia B. Hansen passed away at home on June 11, 2017. She was 60 years old when she lost her fight with brain cancer.
A celebration of Marcia's life will be held in Anchorage in July. Please email Marcia's beloved husband Mike at hanbg162@gmail.com for information.
Marcia was born January 23, 1957 in Butte, Montana. She was the first girl born into the Brown family in four generations. She was special from the start. She attended local schools before moving to Helena, Montana where she attended Carroll College. After graduating with a degree in dental hygiene, Marcia moved to Palmer where she and her first husband Norman Casagranda welcomed their son, Michael Casagranda, into the world.
In 1990 Marcia was well on her way to becoming a sought after dental hygienist. That same year she married her true love, Mike Hansen. Together, Marcia and Mike welcomed their son Joe into the world in 1993.
Marcia loved being a dental hygienist, loved her patients and loved her co-workers. She worked with Dr. Julie Robinson and Dr. David Nielson for over 20 years. More recently, she worked with Dr. Stephen Maloney. It was a tribute to her skill and personality that when Marcia moved practices, a substantial number of her patients followed her.
Marcia had many interests in her life and valued giving back to her community. She served on the South Goldenview RRSA Board of Directors, a role she took seriously and to which she devoted a substantial amount of time. She enjoyed quilting and gardening and was a critical thinker who did not want to be interrupted when watching the news or reading the newspaper.
Marcia's family wants you to know: "Marcia was a person of passion and vibrancy in all things. She devoted herself wholly to her family and home, to her gardens and quilts, to her holiday decorations and her many candles. Her family and friends were an enormous part of what made her who she was, and there are more people she cared for than can be counted. In her dedicated service to her profession as a dental hygienist, as well as her service to her community, she gathered incredible amounts of appreciation and love, which she reciprocated readily and completely. She was strong and intolerant of self-pity and moping. She never allowed herself to be belittled or told she could not do something that she had set her mind to. She is loved and will be missed every day."

Marcia is survived by her husband, Michael Hansen, Anchorage; sons Michael Casagranda and Joseph Hansen, both of Anchorage: her parents, Alan and Marion Brown, Aurora, CO; siblings Charles and Becky Brown, Opportunity, MT, Jeff and Marilee Brown, Jupiter, FL, Jerry and Marcia Brown, Soap Lake, WA, Janice and Brandt Thomas, Butte, MT, and Natalie Brown and Scott Wolfe, Englewood, CO. She is also survived by her many and much loved cousins, nieces, nephews and great nephews.
Marcia, Mike and their family are particularly grateful for the care Marcia received from her team of caring and supportive medical professionals including Dr. Mary Stewart, Dr. Estrada Bernard, Dr. Richard Chung, Dr. Stephen Settle, Dr. John McCormick and the staff from Providence Hospice who helped us comfort Marcia in her final hours
