Obituary

Jim was born in Huntsville, Texas, to James R. Stewart Jr. and Geneva Maples Stewart. They moved to Houston, Texas, in 1940, where Jim was raised. He finished high school at Sam Houston High School. He was in the Army from October 1961- October 1963, and spent 13 months in Korea. In 1966, he came to Alaska with his uncles, Carl Maples and Travis Maples, to mine gold north of Fort Yukon. In 1966, he went to work temporarily for Anchorage Natural Gas (Enstar) through freezeup season. The job became permanent and lasted 25 years. He owned several pull-tab businesses through the years and he retired for good in 1999.
In the 1970s, he met Hallie Morrison and they finally married in 1996. He spent the rest of his life with her. Hallie has two wonderful kids: Carrie Morrison Jaime (husband Adrian) and Randy Morrison (wife Dana).
Jim leaves five grandchildren, Jayme Lembke, Crystal Morrison, Luis Gonzales, Brooklyn Jaime and Cruz Jaime; and two great-grandsons, Knox Lembke and Albert Robles. He also leaves behind a brother, Michael Stewart (wife Susie); and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by brother, Larry Stewart; and his mother and father.
Jim loved his family, his Harley, hunting in Texas near his camp house in Leona, a good game of dice or poker and his many friends.
Jim passed away peacefully in his own bed with his wife holding his hand and all the kids nearby. His two-year-battle with cancer is over. Our lives will never be the same without this amazing man. He will be missed by all who knew him. He was a man of honor and treated everyone with respect and kindness. His wife and family were his greatest joy in life. He was always supportive and gave advice full of wisdom to those he loved.
Jim's remains have been cremated, as he requested. In accordance with his wishes, no funeral service will be held. A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
